2013 Princess Syrah Walla Walla
Small-batch, Single Vineyard.
This Syrah is as unique as the terroir from where the fruit was grown, the beautiful Francisca's Vineyard.
Tasting notes
Cassis blackberry and leathery cedar spice rule the nose. The palate is chewy cassis and super ripe blackberry plum encased in frame work of cedar and spice. Blackberry and vanilla latte round out the finish.
Production notes
Even though Francisca’s vineyard is only has 4.3acres planted in Syrah, and produces fantastic Syrah, the Eastern most two acres are very unique, mostly sand. This sub-area of the vineyard produces the clusters we reserve for the Princess Syrah. In 2013 both open and closed fermentation techniques were conducted. Two different yeast strains were used and the open fermentation was conducted at a higher temperature. Pressing occurred after and average of 27 days. The “free run” was directly transferred into 228L barrels and aged for 16 months.
Other notes
Our favorite foods with this wine are: lamb chops off the charcoal grill, flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce!
