Tasting notes
Our 2014 Linen Red Blend has a lot to say. Intense ruby garnet in color, teasing the nose with hints of smoke, baking spices and mouthwatering, juicy aromas leading into enticing flavors of coffee, marionberry & black cherry. This thoughtful blend with balanced acidity dances on the palate and finishes with a “booyah” of ripe, bright fruit. This wine is made to enjoy now.
Production notes
The Linen Red is created to be a drinkable, affordable every day red with a refined character. Grapes are selected from vineyards throughout Washington’s Columbia Valley. Fermented in small lots using traditional techniques, Linen is aged for 16 months in small oak barrels then thoughtfully blended. 2011 was a Classic Washington vintage (warm sunny days and cool nights) resulting in a wine with a fresh, spicy nose. Balanced acidity, powerful dark fruit flavors and a lingering finish make for easy drinking.

This Merlot-Syrah blend has sausage all over the nose (from the Syrah), backed by notes of blueberries and red plums. I almost fell in love with it, just from the aromas. Nice core of currants, plum and bacon fat on the palate. The smokiness from the syrah is evident front to back and is joined by some tar notes and minerals. There is a nice density from the start as it flows seamlessly into a finish of blueberries, smoked ham and minerals. It never gets “fat”, but it is big with nice balance and a clean finish that lingers. This is a boat-load of wine for twelve bucks and I am sure to have a bottle or two around for my upcoming prime rib dinner. At this price, it doesn’t get much better. (A-)
